about

COLOR FIELDS was recorded during late summer 2017 by principal songwriter Abby Gregg alongside collaborators Taber Lathrop, Ryan Radtke and Drew Kirby in the basement of the lovingly-dubbed Dirthole arthouse in the richmond neighborhood of San Fransisco.

Since there was no available drumset (and plenty of neighbors in proximity), most of the acoustic elements of the project are either vocals or woodwinds - the rest occupies a sort of raw digital murk, at the same time earthy & primitive yet tense & futurist: lots of drum machines, delay pedals and general impressionism in both subject matter and performance.

Gregg previously made her musical debut on a collection of cuts from 2017's Bananagrams Vol. 4, itself a sort of swan song project for our Athens scene before everyone scattered across the continental states in the following years, but also a place of rebirth & new ideas - "How To Make Sense" appears on that release in a creaky, skeletal form as her first properly recorded song. This batch of tunes quickly followed suit as Gregg worked through grad school at the San Fransisco Art Institute, expanding from painting into sculpture & audio design. She has since graduated with an MFA in painting and currently resides in Colorado working as a painting/drawing teacher & lecturer of Visual Arts at the University of Colorado - Denver.

Everyone is better for having known Abby - here's yr chance!
