The latest from Drew Kirby (Mothers, New Wives) entitled "BIRDS INERT" strips back the density of production amassed on the much-labored over & mission statement-y "TAPE DOCTOR" (2017) and instead goes back-to-basics for the first 4-track cassette recordings under the CIVILS mantle in a couple years.

Thematically "BIRDS INERT" follows suit, mostly trading out the searing personal exhumations of Tape Doctor for wider-reaching lyrics with a lighter touch - songs about pop music itself, late capitalism, the Boxcar Children - all recorded & dubbed with zero edits straight to cassette.

This is the first from the "autumn worktapes" lot, a series of 4-track tapes initially eked out over the fall/winter of 2017 which continued well into summer 2018. a massive idea dump of genre experiments and sonic goofs with near total abandon - it's worth thinking of these as MIXTAPES more than albums, or its not worth thinking that. . . ? more autumn worktapes will come as soon as they're mixed down!!!
