about

At the time, the BLACK EP was a revelation for New Wives - the band's sophomore release, the culmination of a debut year that began at a racecar's pace and never seemed to slow down from there. By the summer of 2013, after just 3 months together and with the "White EP" already under their belt, New Wives began to arrange small tours to test the parameters of a brimming interest in making an immense racket in the live setting, and trying to blend the noise in with their established pop stylings.

By the end of the year, New Wives had booked a 5-day block to record, start-to-finish, a 7-part quasi-concept EP that embraced a consciously darker and more progressive sound to counteract the sunnier impressions assumedly left by the hastily-produced debut EP. In this way, it was the first time we got to hear a Marching Banana group step fully into the hifi realm and come out with something sounding larger than, if you could believe it, we could imagine at the time.

This is DOOM POP, heavy and colorful. Written primarily during the summer of 2013. Captured in nascent form on the "Live in Caledonia" release (mbr-025). Careful effort was laid into these tracks, if you like something tell something.
