about

first compilation of kissing booth songs from early 2014. some were composed as voice notes and sent back and forth when patty & erin both still lived in separate cities.

Somewhere down the road between “me and Erin have been hanging out” and opening track “ur but”, the two started trading these recordings back and forth to combat the (namely geographical) inconveniences of living in towns separated by an hour’s worth of I-78. The ten tracks are relentlessly sweet, but with a marked absence of any cliched sappiness. Erin and Patrick alternate every song, taking turns singing for you and for each other. The recordings obnoxiously pure, and capture the beginning glow of a relationship with relentless sincerity. The emotional undertones of the collection culminate on “New Word” where Patrick pins the verse:

“Lets make a new word for love/I can tell we’re both exhausted by it.
And we need something new to feel/Something less worn out and tragic.
Something authentic and real/Something that we can make our own.
I don’t know how I feel/But it seems different, and I like it.”

That’s the true triumph of this project: with Kissing Booth Vol. 1, they’ve already made it their own. What’s more ridiculous than two of Athens’ most feels-heavy songwriters managing to fall in love and release a 10-track love letter to each other for the world to hear? All this on Valentine’s Day??
