about

"...ATNATHS" is the FINAL double-album of original home-recorded dangerous pop music & hard disco from Drew Kirby ((Mothers, New Wives, O Key as well as local engineer//recordist for groups like Meth Wax, Kudzu Kids, Jianna Justice)).

This is the proverbial "covid quarantine album", though it features a wide breadth of sessions and collaborations from 2 years in the top floor of the Grant Park-adjacent 543 BLVD in Atlanta. This is the first release from Kirby to primarily feature keyboards & synth -- there is a notable lack of guitar on especially the front half of the album, framing CIVILS' typical emphasis on the interaction between bass guitar, drum machines, and voice.

Inspired by the early Chicago house of Steve "Silk" Hurley, quiet storm lite-rockin of Sade & Brenton Wood, disco revivalist Todd Terje, and Mcgruff the Crime Dog's shockingly adept 80's P.S.A. synth album "Smart Kids" -- perhaps the ultimate over/underground classic. CIVILS is ultimately pop music & noise, the challenge of clashing opposites!

Never one to sit stagnant, and after about a dozen tapes in ~5 years, this is the purported "final" Civils album as all Kirby's songwriting capacities have been redirected towards new turbopop band SUNSET HONOR UNIT (2021)!
