This is the THIRD installment of our ongoing collaborative recording project BANANAGRAMS -- Volume 3 coming back thru with music from 6 different songwriters; members of Futo, New Wives, Mothers, Dana Swimmer, and Padre all workin together to craft each other's songs. The bulk of recording was begun and completed during twin ice storms a year apart, from Feb. 2014 - Jan. 2015.
Initially conceived as a "back-to-basics" EP for volume 3, Taber Matt & Drew bought a mini-keg and knocked out 5 songs with one USB microphone placed between drums and guitar in a very tiny room during the Athens blizzard of January 2014 (and well before Vol. 2 was even released in July 2014.) Slowly, though, we grew unsatisfied with the idea of not trying to one-up ourselves after Volume 2 had swelled to album length with a growing number of collaborators to boot.
All but one of these songs ("Birdie") from the initial sessions were eventually scrapped to favor later recordings we'd done together testing out the environment of our new home studio CAVE SOUND. Still, in keeping with the theme of Bananagrams, these are all collaborative arrangements and recordings all completed in an afternoon, or in a night - they were just spread a little further apart this time around.
From Flagpole Magazine :: "Unlike most compilations, this series is collaborative, in that artists from several different bands compose songs specifically for the comp, then everyone works together to flesh out the ideas and record the material... psychedelic pop, a smattering of drone and some delicate acoustic instrumentation."
Everyone mixed their own songs for the most part.
